Introduction. Intratec provides Mixed Xylenes prices in several countries, as follows:
About Xylene. Mixed Xylenes (a.k.a. Xylene) is a group of benzenes homologues, more specifically, it is a mix of ο-xylene, m-xylene and ρ-xylene. All xylene isomers are colorless and highly flammable. Occurring naturally in petroleum, xylenes are produced primarily from catalytic reforming and coal carbonization, in the manufacture of coke fuel. Each isomer is an important raw material in many chemical routes. Ρ-xylene can be separated from the mix to produce terephthalic acid and dimethyl terephthalate, widely used in the manufacture of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Ο-xylene is used mainly in the production of phthalic anhydride, which then can be used to produce esters, employed as plasticizers for synthetic polymers. M-xylene is oxidized to isophthalic acid which is also converted to esters.
Chemical Formula. C8H10
Commercial Grades. Commercial or mixed xylene usually contains 40-65% m-xylene and up to 20% of ο-xylene, ρ-xylene and ethyl benzene
Uses. Mixed xylenes are mainly used as insecticide carrier, process solvent (esterification/condensation reactions) and solvent (alkyd resins/acrylic resins/paints/lacquers/printing inks/adhesives).
- Toluene (disproportionation, coproduced with benzene)
- Aromatics, mixed (separation, coproduced with other C9+ aromatics/toluene/benzene)
- Toluene + C9+ aromatics (disproportionation)
Derivatives. Mixed xylenes is used as raw material in the production of ethyl benzene, m-xylene, o-xylene and p-xylene.
