Current Prices, Historical Series and Forecasts in Several Countries
Introduction. Intratec provides LLDPE prices in several countries, as follows:
About LLDPE. LLDPE (a.k.a. Linear Low Density Polyethylene) is one of the three main types of polyethylene. It is a copolymer of ethylene and alpha-olefins. The most common comonomers (also referred to as short-chain branches) used commercially are 1-butene, 1-hexene, and 1-octene. Conventional LLDPE differs from Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) primarily by having a narrower molecular weight distribution and by not containing long-chain branching. The short chains associated with the comonomer interrupt the uniformity of the polymer chain, preventing crystal formation and consequently inhibiting the polymer from achieving high densities. When compared to blown films of LDPE, LLDPE films exhibit tremendous toughness, dart impact, and puncture resistance.
Chemical Formula. (C2H4)n
Commercial Grades. LLDPE butene; LLDPE hexene; LLDPE octene
Uses. LLDPE has a broad range of applications due to its attractive mechanical properties and low cost. The greatest demand for LLDPE resins are associated with film and sheet end-use, representing most of the total production. When compared to blown films of LDPE, LLDPE films exhibit tremendous toughness, dart impact, and puncture resistance. It is presented next LLDPE major end-uses, as well as respective examples of finished products: film and sheet (trash bags, packaging for food and textiles); injection molding (garbage cans, industrial containers, pails, food containers, lids, and closures); blow molding (bottles); rotational molding (storage tanks, shipping containers, and outdoor furniture); pipe and tubing (medical applications); wire and cable insulation (electrical and telephone industry).
