Price Dynamics. The Diethanolamine price in United States increased during November 2018 to 1,200 USD per metric ton, which represents a considerable rise of 8% compared to the previous month’s value. On a year-over-year basis, Diethanolamine prices in United States increased by 5%. Meanwhile, in Belgium, the average price of Diethanolamine amounted to 1,180 USD per metric ton, from 1,070 USD per metric ton one year earlier. About Diethanolamine. Diethanolamine (a.k.a. DEA) is an organic compound that is both a dialcohol and secondary amine and can be produced by ethylene oxide and ammonia reaction. Since the mid-1970s, ethanolamines are manufactured with very pure and colorless aspects, so DEA is found as a white solid when purified at room temperature. Due to its tendency to absorb water, DEA is also encountered as a viscous liquid.
Alkanolamines should be stored in stainless steel containers (316L and 304L) with exclusion of air (O2, CO2) and moisture, preferably under dry nitrogen. Storage temperature should not exceed 50 °C for ethanolamines. Steel tanks may be used if the absorption of iron (up to 10 ppm) is not important. Diethanolamine should be stored in tightly closed containers in a well-ventilated place. It must be kept away from strong oxidants and acids. Aluminum can be used for short-term transport, at temperatures below 60 °C, for pure amines. Phosphatized-lined steel drums are used for the transport of ethanolamines. Depending on the quality requirements and sensitivity of the products, steel, stainless steel, or polyethylene containers can be used for transportation. The containers must possess airtight closures to prevent the absorption of water and carbon dioxide. For transportation, particular national regulations should be observed.
