The uses and applications of Palladium may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Palladium are powder; foil; wires; and single crystals.

About Palladium Metal. Palladium has an atomic number of 46 and is of silvery-white color when in its metallic form, is extremely ductile and is not tarnished when exposed to the atmosphere in ordinary conditions. Like other Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), Palladium is expensive, as ore deposits are rare and demand grows due to its important applications.

It is necessary to avoid creating dust, store in a sealed container, also in a cool and dry area.

Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Palladium Metal are listed below.

  • Copper anodic slimes (sulfating roast process/hydrometallurgical refining; coproduced with tellurium/platinum/gold/silver/selenium),
  • Copper anodic slimes/nickel refinery anode slimes/Mond process residues (sulfating roast process/hydrometallurgical refining; coproduced with tellurium/platinum/gold/silver/selenium)

The uses and applications of Palladium may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Palladium are powder; foil; wires; and single crystals.

Palladium is employed in catalytic converters for automobile exhausts, electroplating processes, electrical contacts, many electronics, hydrogen purification, alloys, metallizing ceramics, groundwater treatment, and in jewelry. In dentistry, it is widely used as a component of dental casting alloys.
