The uses and applications of Nickel Sulfate may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Nickel Sulfate are chemically pure (CP, 99% minimum purity) grade; technical grade (98% minimum purity); liquid solution; and single crystals.

About Nickel Sulfate. Nickel Sulfate (a.k.a. Sulfates of Nickel) is an inorganic odorless salt that appears as green to blue crystals. It is soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol and ether. This salt is found in nature, although hardly in its free form. When discussing nickel sulfate, it is usually not about the anhydrate form, but the two forms commercially available: nickel hexahydrate (NiSO4.6H2O) or nickel heptahydrate (NiSO4.7H2O).

Nickel sulfate is not flammable, although it should be handled with caution, since the Journal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology has published evidence that the salt has been shown to be carcinogenic to both the lungs and nasal passages in instances of long-term inhalation exposure. It is recommended to store in dry, cool, well-ventilated areas, away from direct sunlight.

Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Nickel Sulfate are listed below.

  • Nickel + sulfuric acid (salt formation),
  • Electrolytic copper refining byproduct
