Melamine Price Outlook. The price of Melamine (United States) increased during January 2020 to 824 USD per metric ton, which represents a slight rise of 2% compared to the previous month’s value. About Melamine. Melamine is an organic base, a trimer of cyanamide and occurs as colorless to white crystals or powder. It is used as a fire retardant agent in resins due to nitrogen gas release when burned. Melamine resins are also known to be durable thermoplastics. While commercially produced from urea, melamine is also produced in mammals and plants due to the ingestion of cyromazine, a pesticide.
Melamine Handling. Melamine is transported in paper bags and semibulk bags. Bulk shipment is by truck and railroad car. It should be stored in closed containers in vented areas away from acids and oxidizers, and protected from moisture, as it can pack and lump over greater storage periods.
