H Beam

About H Beam. H Beam is a versatile structural carbon steel product and one of the most popular cross-section steel bars. It is usually manufactured by hot-rolling steel bars in an H-shaped section, but can also be made by welding three pieces of CS plates together. H-beams have inner and outer flange surfaces that run parallel, the width of the flanges is approximately equal to the depth of the beam, and the thickness is uniforme. And is mainly employed where strength needs are not overwhelming and used to support heavy loads.

The hot-rolled beam is usually preferred as it presents better structural properties, is more economical to produce in most sizes, and is easier to ensure uniform product performance. A welded beam is employed when the dimensions required are not readily available for a rolled beam or make the welded beam more economical.

H Beam Handling. It is transported in specialized heavy cargo trucks, and on ships.

H Beam Uses. The uses and applications of H Beam may vary according to its specification. The main forms of H Beam are ASTM A36 grade; and ASTM A992 grade.
