Styrene Acrylonitrile Resin
(C8H8)n – (C3H3N)m
Polymer grade (min. 99.5% purity); commercial grade (varies from 5-90% purity)
SAN is primarily used captively, as matrix component for Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), one of the largest-volume engineering resins, widely used in the automotive industry and on the electronics sector. SAN polymers are also used by themselves, in applications where chemical resistance and transparency are required. Examples of such SAN applications include cookware, parts in electronics and electrical appliances, plastic bottles and materials; thermally insulated mateirials, instrument panels, sanitary and medical goods or cosmetic packaging.
Styrene Acrylonitrile Resin is used as raw material in the production of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS).

Styrene Acrylonitrile Resin (a.k.a. SAN) is a styrene and acrylonitrile copolymer plastic with proprieties like those of polystyrene. The composition is typically 20-30% of acrylonitrile content by weight. It is usually a transparent plastic, although higher percentages of acrylonitrile can make it yellow. Characteristics like high heat resistance and excellent gloss and chemical resistance make SAN one of the largest-volume styrenic copolymers.Styrene-acrylonitrile resins have a variety of uses, the main ones are in the packaging, electronical and plastic industries.
