By far the most important application of DAP is as fertilizer. In addition to being an excellent source of phosphorous (P) and nitrogen (N) for plant nutrition, it combines outstanding properties that make it in fact one of the most important fertilizers, such as high solubility and slight alkaline pH around the dissolving granules. To a lesser extent, DAP is also used as fire retardant, in metal finishing, yeast/microbial fermentation nutrient, sugar purification and precipitation control for alkali-soluble and acid-insoluble compounds.

Intratec provides Diammonium Phosphate prices in several countries, as follows:
DAP is commonly formulated in a controlled reaction of phosphoric acid with ammonia. It is typically produced in both granular form, to be used as fertilizer either directly or blended with other types of fertilizers, and in non-granular form to be used in liquid fertilizers.According to the intended use, DAP is manufactured in different grades. The standard grade - "commodity" grade – of Diammonium Phosphate is referred to as 18-46-0, as a direct reference to its nutrient content: 18 wt % of N (nitrogen content), 46 wt % of P2O5 (phosphate content), and 0 wt % of K2O (potassium content). It is also commercialized as a mixture containing MAP (monoammonium phosphate), such as 13-52-0 and 16-48-0.DAP is transported in bulk, in 50 kg bags and in 1000 kg - 1200 kg big bags.
