The uses and applications of Butyl Acetate may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Butyl Acetate are urethane grade (99.5% minimum purity); industrial grade (99% minimum purity); commercial grade (95% minimum purity); and cosmetic grade (90% minimum purity).

About Butyl Acetate. Butyl Acetate is an organic compound in the ester class. It is a colorless liquid, with a strong fruity odor, commonly found naturally in many different fruits and in some animal pheromones. For that characteristic, n-butyl acetate is used primarily as a synthetic food flavor. For its moderate polarity, the ester also has diverse applicability in chemical processes.

n-Butyl acetate is extremely flammable (flash point at 22°C) in its liquid and vapor form, so it should be transported and stored away from heat sources in tightly closed containers. It should also be stored in well-ventilated areas. The ester is very little toxic and not highly reactive.

Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Butyl Acetate are listed below.

  • n-Butanol + acetic acid (Fischer esterification, catalyzed by sulfuric acid)

The uses and applications of Butyl Acetate may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Butyl Acetate are urethane grade (99.5% minimum purity); industrial grade (99% minimum purity); commercial grade (95% minimum purity); and cosmetic grade (90% minimum purity).
