Methacrylic Acid (a.k.a. MAA) is an organic compound in the carboxylic acid class. It is a viscous, colorless liquid, with an acrid unpleasant odor. MAA can be found naturally in chamomile oil, however, its industrial production began in the 1930s and currently is mainly used as a precursor to its esters, most notably methyl methacrylate (MMA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).
