Resorcinol (a.k.a. Benzene-1,3-diol) is an organic compound in the aromatic alcohol class structurally similar to phenol, but with another hydroxyl group attached to the carbon ring (specifically 2 atoms of carbon away from the other one). It is a white crystalline powder, with sweet odor, insoluble in water, but soluble in most organic solvents. Resorcinol is a synthetic alcohol and has been produced for more than 100 years. It has its main uses in the production of plastics/rubber and adhesives.
