It's deposits occur in extensive layers, which cumulatively covers 10.000 km² of the Earth's crust Rock phosphate can be solubilized to produce wet-process phosphoric acid or smelted to produce elemental phosphorus, being approximately 90% of the produced rock used as fertilizer and animal feed supplements.
