The uses and applications of Nickel Chloride may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Nickel Chloride are liquid solution; technical grade (over 99% purity); 99.5% purity; 99.999% purity; and powder.

About Nickel Chloride. Nickel Chloride (a.k.a. Nickel(II) chloride , NiCl2) is an inorganic salt, with brown to yellow scales, soluble in water and in most organic solvents. Nickel forms dihalides with halogens, and each dihalide forms a minimum of one hydrate. Among those, only the chlorides have industrial importance, especially hexahydrate nickel chloride (NiCl2.6H2O), a greenish crystal powder.

Nickel Chloride is not flammable, although it should be handled with caution, since the Journal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology has published evidence that the salt has been shown to be carcinogenic to both the lungs and nasal passages in instances of long-term inhalation exposure. It should be stored in well-closed containers in an open venting place at an ambient temperature.

Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Nickel Chloride are listed below.

  • Nickel in non-aqueous solution (direct reaction at high temperatures),
  • Nickel hydrate + (gas phase) hydrochloric acid (dehydration),
  • Nickel oxide + hydrochloric acid (salt formation),
  • Nickel + hydrochloric acid (dissolution followed by crystallization)

The uses and applications of Nickel Chloride may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Nickel Chloride are liquid solution; technical grade (over 99% purity); 99.5% purity; 99.999% purity; and powder.
