About Lithium Hydroxide. Lithium Hydroxide appears as white crystals or granular powder that absorbs carbon dioxide and water from the air. When in solution with water, it is clear to white and exhales a pungent odor. Handling should be done carefully, as contact may cause severe irritation to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.

Lithium oxides, hydroxide, and carbonate are strong bases, and their water solutions can be very caustic. In this case, Lithium Hydroxide, either directly or indirectly formed by other salts, can cause caustic burns. Therefore, it should be stored separately from food and feedstuffs, strong oxidants, and strong acids. Also, the salt should be stored only in the original container in a dry place and away from a drain or sewer access.

Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Lithium Hydroxide are listed below.

  • lithium carbonate + calcium hydroxide (salt formation),
  • lithium-bearing ores + limestone (lime fusion process)

Price Dynamics. The Lithium Hydroxide price in United States increased during September 2018 to 15,100 USD per metric ton, which represents a considerable rise of 34% compared to the previous month’s value. On a year-over-year basis, Lithium Hydroxide prices in United States increased significantly by 51%. Meanwhile, in China, the average price of Lithium Hydroxide amounted to 15,500 USD per metric ton, from 11,500 USD per metric ton one year earlier. On a month-over-month basis, the Lithium Hydroxide price in China is 17% higher than the price one month before.

The price of Lithium Hydroxide in Turkey rose considerably throughout September 2018, reaching 20,800 USD per metric ton.  The price in Turkey is 16% higher than the average price in the previous month and 17% higher than the average price one year before. In contrast, Lithium Hydroxide prices in India decreased modestly during September 2018, reaching 18,300 USD per metric ton, which means a decline of 1% from the previous month’s price and a rise of 4% from the previous year’s price. 

The Lithium Hydroxide prices in Chile experienced a modest rise of 300 USD per metric ton from the prior month's price, to 16,600 USD per metric ton. Such price movement in Chile meant a rise of 2% on a monthly basis and a rise of 19% on a yearly basis. On the other hand, in September 2018, the Lithium Hydroxide price in Poland witnessed a rise of 500 USD per metric ton when compared against the previous month's price, to 18,400 USD per metric ton. The September 2018 price in Poland is 6% lower than the price one year before.
