About Vinyl Acetate. Vinyl Acetate (a.k.a. VAM, Vinyl Acetate Monomer, Ethenyl Acetate) is an organic compound, an important vinyl ester, used in the manufacture of many polymers and resins. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet, fruity smell, soluble in most organic solvents, but only slightly soluble in water. On an industrial scale, the dominant production route of Vinyl Acetate is based on the reaction of ethylene with acetic acid and oxygen in the gas phase on heterogeneous catalysts containing palladium.

Being a flammable liquid, vinyl acetate monomer should be stored under nitrogen and away from ignition sources, heat, oxidizing materials, and chemicals that can generate free-radicals, so as to avoid uncontrolled polymerization. Vinyl acetate is transported in practically all quantities: small containers, drums, tankers, tank cars, and ships. Stabilizers are usually added for transportation.

Vinyl Acetate may be produced by the addition of acetic acid to acetylene, addition of acetic anhydride to acetaldehyde, reaction of ethylene with acetic acid and oxygen and the reaction of methyl acetate or dimethyl ether with carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The most common route is based on the reaction of ethylene with acetic acid and oxygen. Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Vinyl Acetate are listed below.

Price Dynamics. The Vinyl Acetate price in United States decreased during November 2018 to 1,040 USD per metric ton, which represents a slight decline of 1% compared to the previous month’s value. On a year-over-year basis, Vinyl Acetate prices in United States increased significantly by 13%. Meanwhile, in Belgium, the average price of Vinyl Acetate amounted to 1,130 USD per metric ton, from 1,090 USD per metric ton one year earlier. On a month-over-month basis, the Vinyl Acetate price in Belgium is 7% lower than the price one month before.

The price of Vinyl Acetate in China declined slightly throughout November 2018, reaching 1,030 USD per metric ton.  The price in China is 4% lower than the average price in the previous month and 2% higher than the average price one year before. In contrast, Vinyl Acetate prices in India decreased during November 2018, reaching 1,110 USD per metric ton, which means a decline of 6% from the previous month’s price and a rise of 5% from the previous year’s price. 

The Vinyl Acetate prices in Saudi Arabia experienced a modest decline of 27 USD per metric ton from the prior month's price, to 993 USD per metric ton. Such price movement in Saudi Arabia meant a decrease of 3% on a monthly basis and a rise of 28% on a yearly basis. On the other hand, in November 2018, the Vinyl Acetate price in Brazil witnessed a rise of 170 USD per metric ton when compared against the previous month's price, to 1,070 USD per metric ton. The November 2018 price in Brazil is 37% higher than the price one year before. 

In Morocco, the average price of Vinyl Acetate was 1,350 USD per metric ton on November 2018 – a sharp decrease of 110 USD per metric ton, or 8%, compared with the previous month. On a year-over-year basis, the Vinyl Acetate price in Morocco is 11% lower than the price one year before.
