About Butane. Butane (a.k.a. Butanes) refers to a gaseous stream containing mainly isobutane and n-butane; the proportion varies with the source. It is mainly obtained as a by-product in petroleum refining or gasoline manufacture.

Commercial Grades. Research (99.99 mol%); pure (99 mol%); technical (95 mol%)
Uses. Butane is mainly employed as process solvent, fuel for household and industrial purposes; refrigerant and propellant.
- Liquefied petroleum gas (fractionation, coproduced with propane).
Derivatives. Butane is used as raw material in the production of the following derivates: acetylene; butadiene; ethylene; hydrogen; maleic anhydride; and thiophene.
