About Naphtha. Naphtha is a liquid stream, mainly derived from crude oil refining, composed of intermediate hydrocarbons, with initial boiling point (IBP) of around 35°C and a final boiling point (FBP) of about 200°C. It has a dark appearance, with a gasoline-like odor, insoluble in water, but soluble in most organic solvents. Naphtha composition varies greatly worldwide, due to the differences in petroleum constitution, containing different percentages of paraffins, aromatic compounds, naphthenes, and others. Its composition normally ranges from hydrocarbons containing a 4-12 carbon chain, predominantly C5-C6. Sulfur is the only heteroatom present in naphtha’s structure, and it only appears in traces. Naphtha is one of the most important chemical commodities worldwide since it is the primary source of gasoline and other fuels, as well as industrial solvents.

Naphtha is a corrosive fuel with a low flash point and poor lubricity, which requires the use of a lubricity enhancer. It is delivered mostly by ship or through pipes on fixed dates.

Naphtha is mainly used in the production of gasoline and solvents for asphalt, paints and varnishes, and in the rubber industry. It is also used to make cleaning fluids; in dry cleaning; cigarette lighters; recycling products; portable camping stove; and lantern fuel.

About Naphtha. Naphtha refers to liquid hydrocarbon mixtures, composed primarily of aliphatic hydrocarbons. It is a key feedstock for the petrochemical industry, used in steam reformers and steam crackers in the production of hydrogen, ethylene and other olefins, that are ultimately used in the production of a range of consumer products, including plastics and synthetic fibers. Naphtha is also used as a fuel in some industrial applications.

Since naphtha is derived from crude oil, changes in crude oil prices have a great influence on naphtha prices. Transportation costs can also play a role in naphtha pricing, particularly in regions where naphtha must be transported long distances to reach consumers.
