This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of Urea Formaldehyde (UF) Resins production starting from methanol and urea. The process examined is a typical industrial process. In this plant, methanol is converted to Formaldehyde over a silver catalyst. The reaction product is distilled for methanol removal and recycle. The final product obtained is Formalin, a 37 wt% Formaldehyde solution. Formaldehyde is then reacted with urea and, finally, the reaction product is polymerized to form the Urea Formaldehyde Resin.
