ICC - Short Description: This report analyses the economics of a typical Salicylic Acid production process from phenol, sodium hydroxide, carbon dioxide, and sulfuric acid in the United States. Initially, phenol and hot aqueous caustic are reacted to produce sodium phenolate which is taken to dryness. Then, it undergoes carboxylation with carbon dioxide, yielding sodium salicylate, which is acidified with sulfuric acid, precipitating Salicylic acid.
