This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of Lactic Acid production from raw sugar using a fermentation process. The process examined is similar to Cargill process. In this process, sucrose is hydrolyzed to glucose and fructose, which are fermented. Lactic Acid is recovered from the fermentation broth by trialkylamine solvent extraction in the presence of carbon dioxide. The final product is Food Grade Lactic Acid solution containing 88 wt% of Lactic Acid.
This report, LA E23B, is a best-in-class examination of Lactic Acid production, providing in-depth, comprehensive techno-economic analysis of the production technology examined, including:
- Process Description: raw materials and utilities consumption, products generation, labor requirements, list of equipment, characterization of site infrastructure, process flow diagram (PFD).
- Capital Cost Analysis: costs of plant construction, working capital, owners' costs, commissioning, start-up and contingency.
- Operating Cost Analysis: variable costs, fixed costs (salary, benefits & maintenance) and corporate overhead costs.
