Lactic Acid (also known as 2-Hydroxypropanoic Acid) is a hydroxycarboxylic acid produced by anaerobic metabolism of sugars in virtually all living things. Driven by a recent demand for more sustainable products, the lactic acid market has expanded beyond the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. Currently, a major growth application is for the production of polylactic acid (PLA) polymer. This biodegradable polymer has the potential to replace petrochemical-based plastics in applications such as packaging, paper coating, fibers, films and a wide range of molded plastic items.
Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand reports examining Lactic Acid production. Each study describes an industrial plant, including main process units and site infrastructure, and presents an independent analysis of capital and operating costs. All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (2019/20).
