Methanal
Formaldehyde (a.k.a. Methanal) is an organic compound naturally occurring, at ambient temperature, as a colorless gas with strong pungent odor and highly flammable. Formaldehyde is the simplest aldehyde in existence and its name comes from the relation and similarities to formic acid. It was first discovered in 1859, however, it began being industrially viable to produce in the beginning of the twentieth century. Due to its relatively low cost, a great variety of uses in chemical reactions, as well as elevated purity, Formaldehyde has become one of the world’s most important research and industrial chemicals.

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand reports examining Formaldehyde production costs. Each study describes an industrial plant, including main process units and site infrastructure, and presents an independent analysis of capital and operating costs. All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q4 2022).

Formaldehyde from Methanol (Silver Catalyst and Methanol Recycle)

This report presents a techno-economic study of Formalin (37wt% aqueous solution of Formaldehyde) production from methanol in the United States by oxidation-dehydrogenation using a silver-catalyzed reaction at conditions that prioritize selectivity over conversion. In this case, unconverted methanol is recycled.

Details: 60 kta United States-based plant   |   Q4 2022   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Formaldehyde E11A target a 60 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Formaldehyde from Methanol (Silver Catalyst and Full Conversion)

This report presents a techno-economic study of Formalin (37wt% aqueous solution of Formaldehyde) production from methanol in the United States. The oxidation-dehydrogenation uses a silver-catalyzed reaction at conditions that prioritize full methanol conversion. In this case, methanol recovery is unnecessary.

Details: 60 kta United States-based plant   |   Q4 2022   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Formaldehyde E12A target a 60 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Formaldehyde from Methanol (Metal Oxide Catalyst)

This study presents the economic analysis of Formaldehyde production from methanol in the United States. In the process analyzed in this report, methanol is directly oxidized to formaldehyde in vapor phase over a metal oxide catalyst.

Details: 60 kta United States-based plant   |   Q4 2022   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Formaldehyde E13A target a 60 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Formaldehyde Production from Methane

This study provides the economics of Formaldehyde production from methane in the United States. In this report, Formaldehyde is obtained via catalytic partial oxidation of methane using a still non-commercial process based on patents issued to Snamprogetti.

Details: 60 kta United States-based plant   |   Q4 2022   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Formaldehyde E21A target a 60 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.
