ICC - Process Overview Text:
Product

Chlorine Dioxide. Chlorine Dioxide (a.k.a. ClO2) is a very unstable gas, which easily decomposes into chlorine and oxygen when exposed to light or mild heating. This gas is a potent oxidizing agent, widely used in disinfection applications.

Raw Materials

Sodium Chlorate. Sodium Chlorate is an oxidizing agent used in the production of chlorine dioxide for bleaching paper pulp and in herbicides. It is valued for its strong oxidizing properties and efficiency in industrial applications. Sodium chlorate is produced through the electrolysis of sodium chloride solution and stored as a crystalline solid.
Hydrochloric Acid. Hydrogen Chloride (HCl), commonly found as hydrochloric acid (a.k.a. muriatic acid) when dissolved in water, is a highly important industrial chemical. Hydrochloric acid has widespread applications in various industries, with major uses in steel pickling, pH control, water treatment, and as a catalyst in chemical synthesis. It is also employed in the production of chlorides, fertilizers, dyes, and in food processing. Hydrogen chloride is primarily produced through the direct synthesis of hydrogen and chlorine, or as a by-product of chlorination reactions in various organic processes. The HCl gas can be absorbed in water to produce aqueous hydrochloric acid, which is the form most widely used industrially.

Other Chlorine Dioxide Production Cost Reports

Chlorine Dioxide from Sodium Chlorate (Sulfuric Acid Process)

This report presents the economics of Chlorine Dioxide production from sodium chlorate via a sulfuric acid-based reduction process. Sulfur dioxide is used as reductant. The economic analysis approaches a plant located in the United States.

Details: 8 kta United States-based plant | Q2 2024 | 107 pages | Issue A From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in this report target a 8 kta (kilo metric ton per annum per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Chlorine Dioxide Production from Chlorine

This study presents the costs associated with the construction of a plant for Chlorine Dioxide production from chlorine in the United States. Initially, sodium chlorate is produced from caustic soda and hydrochloric acid solution via electrolysis. Hydrogen and chlorine are reacted in a furnace to form the pure hydrogen chloride. The sodium chlorate formed is then reduced with the hydrogen chloride to chlorine dioxide.

Hydrogen Chloride Production from Polyvinyl Chloride Waste

This study approaches the economics of gaseous Hydrogen Chloride (HCl) production from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) waste in the United States. The process under analysis is a pyrolysis conducted in two continuous reactors. Initially, HCl and chlorinated hydrocarbons (Cl-HCs) are removed from the plastic in the first reactor and HCl is purified. The plastic is then sent to a second reactor to finish pyrolysis and, finally, the pyrolysis gases are directed to distillation to produce benzene and fuel oil as by-products
