ICC - Process Overview Text:
Product

Ziram. Ziram (a.k.a. Zinc Dimethyldithiocarbamate) is coordination complex of zinc with a carbamate. This compound is mainly employed as a protective fungicide for use on fruit and vegetable crops. It is also used as a repellent to rodents and rats. It is sold as a odorless white powder or granule.

Raw Materials

Caustic Soda. Causic soda (NaOH), also known as sodium hydroxide, is a major inorganic used in several industries. Most of caustic soda production is used in the manufacture of chemicals, such as propylene oxide and sodium salts. Electrolysis of sodium chloride accounts for most of today’s installed capacity for caustic soda production, which also generates chlorine.
Carbon Disulfide. Carbon Disulfide is a volatile liquid used primarily in the production of rayon, cellophane, and carbon tetrachloride. It is valued for its solvent properties and ability to react with various chemicals in industrial processes. Carbon Disulfide is produced through the reaction of carbon and sulfur at high temperatures. It is stored as a liquid and is essential in industries producing fibers and solvents.
Dimethylamine. Dimethylamine is a secondary amine used in producing agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and water treatment chemicals. It is a building block for numerous chemical syntheses. Produced by reacting methanol and ammonia over a catalyst, it is stored as a gas or aqueous solution. Its reactivity allows for the formation of solvents like dimethylformamide and other important compounds.

ICC - Process Schematic Image: //cdn.intratec.us/images/icc/process-schematics/349-A.jpg
ICC - Short Description: This report presents the economics of Ziram production from dimethylamine, carbon disulfide, sodium hydroxide, and zinc sulfate in the USA. In the process, dimethyl amine reacts with carbon disulfide, yielding N,N-dimethyl dithiocarbamic acid. The product is neutralized with sodium hydroxide, producing the corresponding sodium salt, which is precipitated by the addition of zinc sulfate, producing Ziram.
