Report Abstract
In this study, the economics of Hexamethyldisiloxane production is analyzed. The analysis assumes a plant located in the United States receiving trimethylchlorosilane and generating Hexamethyldisiloxane via hydrolysis of the starting material.
The report provides a comprehensive study of Siloxanes production and related Siloxanes production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Siloxanes production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Siloxanes plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Siloxanes plant operating costs (Opex).
The Siloxanes production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Siloxanes plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Siloxanes plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.
Process Overview
Product
Hexamethyldisiloxane. Hexamethyldisiloxane (a.k.a. HMDSO) is a volatile organosilicon compound used as a reagent, solvent, and in the formulation of silicone-based materials. It is synthesized from dimethylchlorosilanes. Its low surface tension makes it valuable in coatings and sealants.
Raw Material
Trimethylchlorosilane. Trimethylchlorosilane is employed as a silylating agent in organic synthesis to protect hydroxyl groups. It is also used in producing silicone oils and resins. Derived from the reaction of methyl chloride with silicon, it is stored as a volatile liquid. Its utility in modifying surfaces and molecules is essential in chemical manufacturing.
