This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE) production from an isobutylene stream from an isobutane dehydrogenation plant and methanol. The process examined is similar to UOP's Ethermax process for isobutylene etherification. In this process the etherification reaction is conducted in two steps, the first step being in a conventional reactor and the second in a reactive distillation column. Other established commercial etherification processes with similar configuration, like CBI's CDMTBE, Axens' MTBE Process and Evonik's MTBE Process may as well be represented by the economic analysis presented in this report.
This report, MTBE E51A, is a best-in-class examination of MTBE production, providing in-depth, comprehensive techno-economic analysis of the production technology examined, including:
- Process Description: raw materials and utilities consumption, products generation, labor requirements, list of equipment, characterization of site infrastructure, process flow diagram (PFD).
- Capital Cost Analysis: costs of plant construction, working capital, owners' costs, commissioning, start-up and contingency.
- Operating Cost Analysis: variable costs, fixed costs (salary, benefits & maintenance) and corporate overhead costs.
- And much more . . .
