LLDPE
LLDPE (a.k.a. Linear Low Density Polyethylene) is one of the three main types of polyethylene. It is a copolymer of ethylene and alpha-olefins. The most common comonomers (also referred to as short-chain branches) used commercially are 1-butene, 1-hexene, and 1-octene. Conventional LLDPE differs from Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) primarily by having a narrower molecular weight distribution and by not containing long-chain branching. The short chains associated with the comonomer interrupt the uniformity of the polymer chain, preventing crystal formation and consequently inhibiting the polymer from achieving high densities. When compared to blown films of LDPE, LLDPE films exhibit tremendous toughness, dart impact, and puncture resistance.
