Report Abstract
In this study Electricity generation from wood is reviewed employing a biomass bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler to burn wood and produce steam to drive a steam turbine. The economic analysis performed assumes a plant located in the USA.
The report provides a comprehensive study of Electricity production and related Electricity production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Electricity production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Electricity plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Electricity plant operating costs (Opex).
The Electricity production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Electricity plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Electricity plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.
Process Overview
Product
Electricity. Electricity is a versatile energy source utilized across various sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, and residential applications. It serves as the driving force for machinery, lighting, and electronic devices, and is increasingly employed in electrochemical processes and the production of hydrogen through electrolysis. Generated from renewable sources like wind, solar, and hydro, as well as fossil fuels and nuclear power, electricity plays a critical role in advancing sustainable energy solutions and enhancing efficiency in industrial operations.
Raw Material
Wood Chips. Wood Chips are small pieces of wood used as a raw material in the production of paper, fiberboard, and energy. Their high moisture content makes them ideal for combustion in biomass power generation. Wood chips are obtained from forestry and milling operations and are stored in piles or silos. Their role in renewable energy production and pulp manufacturing is crucial for sustainable industries.
