ICC - Process Overview Text:
Product

Renewable Diesel. Renewable diesel is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based diesel. It is produced from renewable feedstocks such as vegetable oils, animal fats, and waste oils, through advanced hydrotreating processes. Renewable diesel offers significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and it meets the same performance standards as conventional diesel, making it a drop-in replacement. Unlike biodiesel, which is an ester-based fuel, renewable diesel is a hydrocarbon and can be stored, transported, and used in the same infrastructure as traditional diesel fuel. Its growing adoption is driven by environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives worldwide.

Raw Materials

Natural Gas. Natural gas is a naturally occurring mixture of hydrocarbon found in porous subsurface geologic formations. It is composed mainly of methane, but also contains varying amounts of higher hydrocarbons such as ethane, propane, and butane. Additionally, natural gas may also include non-hydrocarbon components considered impurities such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide. Natural gas is primarily used as a source of heat energy for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. It may also be used in the production of important chemicals such as ammonia, methanol, and hydrogen.
Soybean Oil. Soybean figures among the main oilseed crops worldwide, consumed directly as food to varying extents but also widely used in the production of edible oils. In fact, most of soybeans processed are solvent-extracted with hexane to recover the respective soybean oil. Main applications of soybean oil, in turn, are in food consumption and as protein source for livestock. More recent uses of soybean oil are in biodiesel production.

Other Diesel Production Cost Reports

Renewable Diesel Production from Wood (Fast Pyrolysis Process)

This report provides a techno-economic analysis of Diesel production from wood chips in the United States. This study evaluates a fast pyrolysis process followed by a hydroprocessing step using woody biomass as raw material.

Details: 40 kta United States-based plant | Q4 2024 | 107 pages | Issue H From $1,199 USD

The cost analyses presented in this report target a 40 kta (kilo metric ton per annum per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Production (Hydrotreating Unit)

This report provides a techno-economic analysis of Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) production via a hydrotreating process in the United States. In this process, a high-sulfur diesel feed is passed through a fixed-bed catalytic reactor, where sulfur and nitrogen impurities are reacted with hydrogen and converted into hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. The reactor effluent is then subjected to a sequence of separation steps, so that Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (10 ppm sulfur) is obtained as the final product.
