Polyurethane Operating Costs & Plant Construction Costs

3 kta United States-based plant | 107 Pages | Issue D | Q3 2024
Starting at $799 USD | See Report Editions Prices

It presents the economics of Flexible Slabstock Polyether Polyurethane production from toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and a polyether triol in the United States. The process examined in this report is a typical variable pressure foaming (VPF) process.

The report provides a comprehensive study of Polyurethane production and related Polyurethane production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Polyurethane production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Polyurethane plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Polyurethane plant operating costs (Opex).

The Polyurethane production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Polyurethane plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Polyurethane plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.

Polyurethane Production Cost Report Process Overview
Product

Polyether Polyurethane. Polyether Polyurethane is a polyurethane variant known for its superior flexibility, hydrolytic stability, and resilience, commonly used in soft foams, elastomers, and sealants. It is made from polyether polyols. It offers excellent moisture resistance, making it ideal for wet environments.

Raw Materials

TDI. Toluene diisocyanate is used in producing flexible polyurethane foams found in furniture, bedding, and automotive seating. It reacts with polyols to create materials with cushioning properties. Produced by the phosgenation of toluene diamine, it is stored as a toxic liquid requiring careful handling. Its versatility extends to coatings and elastomers, making it significant in various consumer goods.

Polyether Triol. Polyether Triol is used in producing polyurethane foams, elastomers, and sealants by reacting with isocyanates. It contributes to polymers with flexible or rigid properties depending on its molecular weight. Synthesized through the polymerization of propylene oxide or ethylene oxide, it is stored as a viscous liquid. Its customization potential allows manufacturers to tailor material characteristics for specific industrial needs.
