Polyaluminum Chloride Powder Production

Polyaluminum Chloride Operating Costs & Plant Construction Costs

20 kta United States-based plant | 107 Pages | Issue C | Q3 2024
Starting at $1,199 USD | See Report Editions Prices

This report presents the economics of Polyaluminum Chloride powder production from aluminum oxide and hydrochloric acid in the United States. Hydrochloric acid and aluminum oxide are fed to a reactor under constant agitation. The reactor product is cooled, filtered and then passed through a spray dryer, yielding a powder containing 30 wt% of aluminum expressed as aluminum oxide.

The report provides a comprehensive study of Polyaluminum Chloride production and related Polyaluminum Chloride production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Polyaluminum Chloride production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Polyaluminum Chloride plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Polyaluminum Chloride plant operating costs (Opex).

The Polyaluminum Chloride production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Polyaluminum Chloride plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Polyaluminum Chloride plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.

Polyaluminum Chloride Production Cost Report Process Overview
Product

Polyaluminum Chloride. Polyaluminum Chloride (a.k.a. PAC) is a partially hydrolyzed aluminum chloride polymer. PAC is not a single substance, but rather a whole spectrum of inorganic polymers, which may present distinct physical and chemical properties. PAC products are typically handled and used as aqueous solutions, but solid products are also sold.

Raw Materials

Aluminum Oxide. Aluminum Oxide is a key material used in the production of ceramics, abrasives, and refractories. It is also used as a precursor in aluminum smelting and in the production of cutting tools and insulators. Aluminum Oxide is produced from bauxite via the Bayer process and stored as a fine powder. Its hardness and thermal stability make it crucial in high-performance materials and metalworking.

HCl. Hydrogen Chloride (HCl), commonly found as hydrochloric acid (a.k.a. muriatic acid) when dissolved in water, is a highly important industrial chemical. Hydrochloric acid has widespread applications in various industries, with major uses in steel pickling, pH control, water treatment, and as a catalyst in chemical synthesis. It is also employed in the production of chlorides, fertilizers, dyes, and in food processing. Hydrogen chloride is primarily produced through the direct synthesis of hydrogen and chlorine, or as a by-product of chlorination reactions in various organic processes. The HCl gas can be absorbed in water to produce aqueous hydrochloric acid, which is the form most widely used industrially.

Hydrogen Chloride Production from Polyvinyl Chloride Waste

This study approaches the economics of gaseous Hydrogen Chloride (HCl) production from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) waste in the United States. The process under analysis is a pyrolysis conducted in two continuous reactors. Initially, HCl and chlorinated hydrocarbons (Cl-HCs) are removed from the plastic in the first reactor and HCl is purified. The plastic is then sent to a second reactor to finish pyrolysis and, finally, the pyrolysis gases are directed to distillation to produce benzene and fuel oil as by-products
