Gasoline Production from Mixed Plastic Waste

Gasoline Operating Costs & Plant Construction Costs

15 kta United States-based plant | 107 Pages | Issue C | Q3 2024
Starting at $999 USD | See Report Editions Prices

This study presents an economic analysis of Gasoline production from mixed plastic waste (MPW) in the United States. In this process, MPW is initially pretreated and then undergoes catalytic cracking over silica alumina in a fluidized bed reactor. The oil product is finally separated into gasoline and diesel.

The report provides a comprehensive study of Gasoline production and related Gasoline production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Gasoline production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Gasoline plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Gasoline plant operating costs (Opex).

The Gasoline production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Gasoline plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Gasoline plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.

Gasoline Production Cost Report Process Overview
Products

Gasoline. Gasoline is a mixture of many organic compounds, mostly hydrocarbons containing from 4 to 12 carbon atoms (branched-chain paraffins, cycloparaffins, olefins, and aromatics). It is a liquid suitable for use as fuel in spark-ignition of internal combustion engines (Otto engine). An important quality parameter is the octane level, which is a quantity that measures the antiknock properties of the fuel in comparison to a mixture of isooctane and heptane. Gasoline should have an octane number of at least 60 but optimized engines use Gasoline with higher octane levels. Bulk Gasoline trades commonly occur in the spot market, in which the commodity can be purchased for immediate delivery.

Diesel. Diesel is a petroleum-based fuel used in internal combustion engines, primarily in transportation, agriculture, and heavy machinery. It offers high energy density and efficiency in powering vehicles and industrial equipment. Diesel is produced through the distillation of crude oil and is stored as a liquid.

Raw Material

Mixed Plastic Waste. Mixed Plastic Waste (40% PP; 40% PE; 20% PS) is used in the production of fuels or recycled plastics, with the composition determining its suitability for mechanical or chemical recycling. This blend's high content of polyolefins makes it a candidate for pyrolysis, converting the waste into valuable products like synthetic fuels or feedstocks for petrochemical processes.
