p-Nitrophenol Production

p-Nitrophenol Operating Costs & Plant Construction Costs

4.8 kta United States-based plant | 107 Pages | Issue A | Q3 2024
Starting at $999 USD | See Report Editions Prices

This report analyses the economics of p-Nitrophenol (PNP) production from 4-nitrochlorobenzene and sodium hydroxide. In the process, 4-nitrochlorobenzene reacts with sodium hydroxide producing PNP, which is then concentrated and treated to be obtained as a pure product. The economic analysis is based on a plant located in the United States.

The report provides a comprehensive study of p-Nitrophenol production and related p-Nitrophenol production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the p-Nitrophenol production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related p-Nitrophenol plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective p-Nitrophenol plant operating costs (Opex).

The p-Nitrophenol production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The p-Nitrophenol plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The p-Nitrophenol plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.

p-Nitrophenol Production Cost Report Process Overview
Product

p-Nitrophenol. p-Nitrophenol is an aromatic compound used as a precursor in the synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. Its strong electrophilic properties make it a key reagent in various chemical reactions. p-Nitrophenol is produced via the nitration of phenol and is stored as a pale yellow crystalline solid. Its ability to act as an indicator in biochemical assays due to its pH sensitivity further expands its use in research and industrial applications.

Raw Materials

Caustic Soda. Causic soda (NaOH), also known as sodium hydroxide, is a major inorganic used in several industries. Most of caustic soda production is used in the manufacture of chemicals, such as propylene oxide and sodium salts. Electrolysis of sodium chloride accounts for most of today’s installed capacity for caustic soda production, which also generates chlorine.

p-Nitrochlorobenzene. p-Nitrochlorobenzene (4-nitrochlorobenzene) is a highly versatile aromatic nitro compound, which undergoes nucleophilic reactions (e.g., amination and alkoxylation), reduction of the nitro group, and electrophilic ring substitution (e.g., sulfonation). Being a primary intermediate, this chemical has a range of industrially useful derivatives for the production of antioxidants, colorants and other effect chemicals. Commercial production of this chemical is based on nitration of chlorobenzene with acids, followed by separation of isomers 2-nitrochlorobenzene and 4-nitrochlorobenzene.
