Isosorbide. Isosorbide is an organic compound, in the aliphatic diol class. Its structure is composed of a hydroxyl group attached to each of two cis-oriented saturated furan rings. It appears as highly hygroscopic white flake solid, soluble in water, alcohols and ketones. Isosorbide is manufactured from bio-based raw materials, which release glucose molecules to be hydrogenated to sorbitol. This sorbitol is in turn dehydrated to sorbitan, which is then further dehydrated to Isosorbide. Biodegradable and thermally stable, this chemical has been considered as a potential feedstock for the biochemical industry.

Raw Material

Glucose Syrup. Glucose (C6H12O6), also known as D-glucose and dextrose, is the most abundant sugar in nature. Commercial glucose products are available in both dry and syrup forms in a variety of purities and concentrations. Glucose uses include pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals and fuels. This compound is used as raw material in fermentative processes for the production of vitamins, organic acids, antibiotics, amino acids, enzymes, and polysaccharides.
