Commodity Production Costs Report
Dicyclopentadiene Production
Dicyclopentadiene Operating Costs & Plant Construction Costs
This report presents the economics of Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) production from a crude C5s stream, generating C5 raffinate as by-product. Initially, cyclopentadiene is dimerized to generate DCPD. The DCPD is then purified by disitillation. The economic analysis is based on the construction of a plant in the United States.
The report provides a comprehensive study of Dicyclopentadiene production and related Dicyclopentadiene production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Dicyclopentadiene production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Dicyclopentadiene plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Dicyclopentadiene plant operating costs (Opex).
The Dicyclopentadiene production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Dicyclopentadiene plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Dicyclopentadiene plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.

Product
Dicyclopentadiene. Dicyclopentadiene is a hydrocarbon monomer used in the production of resins, adhesives, and elastomers. Its ability to undergo polymerization reactions makes it valuable in industries requiring high-performance materials. Dicyclopentadiene is derived from the dimerization of cyclopentadiene and is stored as a liquid. It is commonly used in unsaturated polyester resins and as a co-monomer in producing highly durable rubber and plastic materials.
Raw Material
Crude C5s. Crude C5s are a byproduct of naphtha cracking, consisting of a mixture of C5 hydrocarbons. They serve as feedstocks for the production of synthetic rubbers, resins, and adhesives. Crude C5s are separated through distillation and refining processes and are stored as liquids. They play a significant role in the chemical industry, especially in the production of high-performance elastomers.

DCPD Unsaturated Polyester Production
This report presents the economics of DCPD Unsaturated Polyester production from maleic anhydride, dicyclopentadiene, monoethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and styrene using a typical batch process in the United States. The addition reaction of maleic anhydride produces a dicyclopentadiene acid maleate that condenses with glycols to form DCPD resin.

Ethylidene Norbornene Production
This report presents the economics of 5-Ethylidene-2-Norbornene (ENB) production from dicyclopentadiene and butadiene based on an industrial plant located in the United States.. Initially, dicyclopentadiene is cracked into cyclopentadiene. The cyclopentadiene obtained is subjected to Diels-Alder reaction with butadiene to produce 5-vinyl-2-nor bornene (VNB); which in then isomerized to 5-Ethylidene-2-Norbornene.
