Report Abstract
In this study, it is approached the economics of 1-Octene production starting from mixed C7 hydrocarbons. The analysis is based on a United States-based plant using a process similar to the technology owned by Sasol. In this process, 1-heptene is submitted to hydroformylation through a Fischer-Tropsch process and subsequent dehydration.
The report provides a comprehensive study of Octene production and related Octene production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Octene production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Octene plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Octene plant operating costs (Opex).
The Octene production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). Product
1-Octene. Octene is any alkene having eight carbons. Among octene isomers, 1-octene is considered and important liner alpha olefin (LAO), produced commercially from ethylene oligomerization, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and dehydration of alcohols. Main uses of octene are in organic sysnthesis, primarily as comonomer in the production of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). To a lesser extent, this chemical is used in plasticizers, surfactants, pulp and paper industry and lubricants, among others.
Raw Material
Mixed C7s. Mixed C7s are a blend of hydrocarbons containing seven carbon atoms, primarily used as feedstock in the production of solvents, chemicals, and fuels. These hydrocarbons are essential in refining and petrochemical processes due to their versatility. Mixed C7s are derived from the distillation of crude oil and are stored as liquids. Their role in producing chemical intermediates and specialty chemicals makes them valuable in industrial manufacturing.
