Wire Rod Price Outlook
Carbon Steel Price Outlook. The price of Wire Rod (United States) decreased during May 2020 to 727 USD per metric ton, which represents a decline of 4% compared to the previous month’s value. On a year-over-year basis, the prices of Wire Rod (United States) decreased significantly by 12%. Meanwhile, the average price of Wire Rod (China) amounted to 512 USD per metric ton, from 598 USD per metric ton one year earlier. On a month-over-month basis, the price of Wire Rod (China) is 3% higher than the price one month before.
The price of Wire Rod (Southeast Asia) declined considerably throughout May 2020, reaching 428 USD per metric ton. The price is 14% lower than the average price in the previous month and 28% lower than the average price one year before. In contrast, the prices of Wire Rod (Middle East) decreased during May 2020, reaching 429 USD per metric ton, which means a decline of 5% from the previous month’s price and a decline of 17% from the previous year’s price.
The prices of Wire Rod (Europe) experienced a modest decline of 8 USD per metric ton from the prior month's price, to 529 USD per metric ton. Such price movement meant a decrease of 1% on a monthly basis and a decrease of 15% on a yearly basis.
About Wire Rod
About Wire Rod. Wire Rod is an iron or steel semifinished product rolled from a billet on a rod mill. Although it may be produced in several shapes, such as square, hexagonal, triangular, and flat, the most part has a round cross-section with diameters of 5.6 to 18.7 mm. It differs from bars in that it is formed into coils of about 760 mm in diameter and up to 2000 kg in weight.
Wire Rod Handling. If on board the vessel, wire rod may be stored in lower holds or tweendecks. It is necessary to use compact and rigid bundles, and that the wire rods are organized in such a way as to avoid breaking the stowage and causing damage due to crushing, disintegration of the bundles, bends, twists, etc. Also, it is necessary to avoid saltwater humidity, so it requires particular humidity and ventilated conditions.
