About Calcium Ammonium Nitrate
About Calcium Ammonium Nitrate. Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (a.k.a. CAN, Nitro-Limestone) is a granulated fertilizer that contains about 27% nitrogen and 8% calcium. The product is a mixture of about 80% ammonium nitrate and 20% ground limestone. This combination makes calcium ammonium nitrate an all-rounder for all fertilizer measures.
Calcium Ammonium Nitrate Handling. Fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate, especially calcium ammonium nitrate, must be protected from direct sunlight and from repeated temperature changes at 32°C, because otherwise repeated recrystallization leads to granule disintegration. CAN should be stored in a well-ventilated place away from heat and protected from moisture. Unlike ammonium nitrate, CAN is not classified as an oxidizer and does not have any explosion hazard. To ensure safe product transportation and keeping, calcium ammonium nitrate is packed in polyethylene or polypropylene bags, big bags, or other packages, ensuring safe transportation and storage. Packages containing zinc or copper can not be used.
Calcium Ammonium Nitrate Production. Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate are listed below.
- ammonium nitrate + ground limestone
- phosphate rock + nitric acid + calcium nitrate (acidification and neutralization)
Calcium Ammonium Nitrate Uses. The uses and applications of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate are fertilizer grade.
