Butylene
Butene (a.k.a. Butenes, Butylene) refers to a range of linear isomeric olefins (1-butene, cis-2-butene, trans-2-butene). It a colorless, flammable mixture, insoluble in water, but soluble in most organic compounds. The isomers hardly occur naturally and have been known since the end of the nineteenth century. They are usually coproduced as a single mixture and are formed as byproducts of petroleum cracking for gasoline manufacture or catalytic dehydrogenation of butanes. For this reason, butenes production grew rapidly with the growth of cracking processes.

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand reports examining Butene production costs. Each study describes an industrial plant, including main process units and site infrastructure, and presents an independent analysis of capital and operating costs. All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q2 2023).

Butenes Production from Ethylene

This report presents the economics of Butenes production from ethylene using a dimerization process similar to Lummus process. In the process under analysis, gasoline and fuel oil are generated as by-products. The economic analysis assumes a plant constructed in the United States.

Details: 200 kta United States-based plant   |   Q2 2023   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Butene E11A target a 200 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

1-Butene Production from Ethylene

This study presents the costs associated with the construction of an industrial plant producing 1-Butene from ethylene in the United States. This study analyzes a process similar to the Axens/SABIC AlphaButol technology. In the process under analysis, ethylene is dimerized into butenes with high selectivity for 1-Butene. Gasoline (C6+ stream) is generated as by-product.

Details: 50 kta United States-based plant   |   Q2 2023   |   106 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Butene E12A target a 50 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

1-Butene from Raffinate-2 (Extractive Distillation)

In this report, the economic analysis concerns a plant located in the United States, producing 1-Butene using a conventional industrial approach for extractive distillation of raffinate-2, which also generates raffinate-3 as by-product.

Details: 120 kta United States-based plant   |   Q2 2023   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Butene E21A target a 120 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

1-Butene from Raffinate-2 (Superfractionation)

This study approaches 1-Butene production from raffinate-2 in the United States using a typical superfractionation process. Raffinate-3 is also generated as by-product in this plant.

Details: 120 kta United States-based plant   |   Q2 2023   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Butene E22A target a 120 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

1-Butene from Raffinate-2 (Hydrogenation Followed by Fractionation)

This feasibility study concers 1-Butene production from raffinate-2. In this study, raffinate-2 is first subjected to a hydrogenation step before fractionation. Raffinate-3 is generated as by-product. The economic analysis is also based on a plant located in the United States.
