Hexene (a.k.a. Hexenes) refers to a group of alkene isomers with molecular formula C6H12. The most important Hexene is the 1-Hexene, which is largely employed as a comonomer in the production of polymers. 1-Hexene is a clear colorless liquid with a petroleum like odor. It is used as a solvent, paint thinner, and chemical reaction medium. Hexenes are produced from the dehydration of their respective hexanol. 1-Hexene, however, is most commonly manufactured via ethylene oligomerization.
