Butadiene (a.k.a. BD, 1,3-Butadiene, Bio-Butadiene) is the simplest conjugated diene and an extremely versatile and important chemical commodity. With its conjugated double bonds, this chemical can undergo several unique reactions (e.g. addition, hydrogenation, oxygenation, Diels-Alder, polymerization) yielding a broad range of important chemicals. 1,2-Butadiene, the other isomeric form of Butadiene, has no significant commercial applications. It is usually a by-product from 1,3-Butadiene production.
