This titanium compound has great technological importance, being a commodity chemical widely employed in industries. In fact, the vast majority of titanium ores is processed into Titanium Dioxide, which makes this chemical the most widely used titanium product in the planet.

Uses. The main application of Titanium Dioxide is as a pigment, providing whiteness and opacity to a variety of products including paints; plastics; papers; foods; cosmetics; and pharmaceuticals. In fact, TiO2 accounts for most of the world's production of pigments. Highly refractory, this chemical is also used in cosmetic and skin care products to reflect UV light; in protective coatings for automobile and marine parts; and in optical mirrors.
