About Succinic Anhydride. Succinic Anhydride is a cyclic dicarboxylic anhydride and a tetrahydrofurandione. It can be produced via dehydration of succinic acid, via catalytic hydrogenation of maleic anhydride, or as a by-product of adipic acid production. Succinic Anhydride appears as colorless or light-colored needles or flakes, soluble in alcohol and chloroform, but insoluble in water.
Commercial Grades. distilled grade (99.5 wt% minimum purity).
Uses. Succininc Anhydride is used mainly in adhesives and sealants; fungicides and herbicides; ceramics; coatings; pigments; dyes; inks; and corrosion inhibitors. It is also used as cement additive; food preservative; synthetic lubricants; and etching agent.
