About Polyisoprene. Polyisoprene (a.k.a. IR, Synthetic Rubber) is a thermoplastic elastomer, and the main component of natural rubber. It is formed by polymerization of isoprene in the presence of Ziegler-Natta catalyst. Synthetic Polyisoprene and natural rubber have the same type of applications, being used mainly in tires, belts, gaskets, hoses, foam rubber, molded and mechanical goods, bottle nipples, gloves, caulking, sealants, etc.
Uses. Polyisoprene is used mainly as: elastomer for light colored goods (such as hoses, belts, gloves, etc); rubber bands; calendered rubber sheeting; fine fabric thread; golf ball thread; emollient in cosmetics; food-contact paper/paperboard; and rheology modifier for lubricants/oils. It is also used in adhesives; footwear; sponge products; tires; and pharmaceuticals goods.
