About Chlorapatite. Ore containing calcium phosphate minerals, the most important of which is fluoroapatite (Ca10(PO4)6F2). The ore occurs in both sedimentary and magmatic deposits and requires beneficiation, generally by washing, sieving, magnetic separation, flotation and calcining, before shipment to the market. Major producing countries are the USA (Florida, Tennessee, Idaho), Brazil, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Togo, South Africa, Russia (Kola Peninsula), Kazakhstan (Kara Tau) and China. Ore grades are expressed in terms of their P2O5 or BPL (bone phosphate of lime) content. Commercial ores contain 29— 38% P2O5 and 3—4% F. Fluoroapatite is extremely insoluble in water. Its direct use as a fertiliser is limited for this reason.
Uses. Slow-release fertiliser ingredient
Derivatives. Ammonium nitrate; apatite, defluorinated; calcium magnesium phosphates, fused; calcium sulfate hemihydrate; calcium superphosphate; calcium triple superphosphate; dicalcium phosphate; ferrophosphorus; gypsum; hexafluorosilicic acid; monocalcium phosphate, feed-grade; nitrophosphate; phosphoric acid, wet-process; phosphorus, white; Rhenania phosphate
