How to Use Process Plant Cost Indexes (IC Indexes). Suppose the plant cost for building a plant in Germany, in January 2000, was USD 200 million. To update the plant cost from January 2000 to December 2000, just multiply the plant cost by the ratio of IC index at December 2000 (107.2) over the IC index in January 2000 (100), as expressed in the equation below:

Plant Cost[Dec 2000] = Plant Cost[Jan 2000] * (IC Index[Dec 2000] / IC Index[Jan 2000])

By applying this equation, the plant cost in December 2000 would be approximately USD 214 million.
