Price Dynamics. The Trichloroethylene price in United States decreased during December 2018 to 854 USD per metric ton, which represents a decline of 5% compared to the previous month’s value. On a year-over-year basis, Trichloroethylene prices in United States decreased modestly by 4%. Meanwhile, in Germany, the average price of Trichloroethylene amounted to 1,280 USD per metric ton, from 1,230 USD per metric ton one year earlier. On a month-over-month basis, the Trichloroethylene price in Germany was flat.
The price of Trichloroethylene in China rose considerably throughout December 2018, reaching 807 USD per metric ton. The price in China is 8% higher than the average price in the previous month and 1% lower than the average price one year before. In contrast, Trichloroethylene prices in Thailand decreased modestly during December 2018, reaching 1,050 USD per metric ton, which means a decline of 0.9% from the previous month’s price and a rise of 9% from the previous year’s price.

About Trichloroethylene. Trichloroethylene (a.k.a. TCE) is a sweet smelling, colorless, volatile liquid and a powerful solvent for many substances. It is immiscible with water but miscible with many organic solvents. It was invented by ICI in Great Britain and hailed as a revolution in anesthesiology, but it was found to be toxic and its use was curtailed.
Trichloroethylene should be stored in a well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight, away from heat/ignition sources. Mild steel tanks are adequate for storage, but aluminum should never be used. Trichloroethylene is usually shipped by truck or rail car and in 208-liter steel drums.
