About Polyethylene Glycol. Polyethylene Glycol is a biodegradable low-toxic polymer obtained from ethylene oxides. As analogous polymers, Polyethylene Glycol has a wide variety of properties, ranging from a colorless water-miscible liquid to a white-hard wax. The physical and mechanical properties of the polymer depend mainly on its density, molecular weight, and weight distribution, delivering an extensive set of applications.

Polyethylene Glycol must be storage in a cool, dry, and well-closed container to avoid moisture absorption from the air. Also, it is necessary to avoid the sunlight, sources of ignition, strong bases and strong acids.

Raw materials and the respective production processes employed in the manufacturing of Polyethylene Glycol are listed below.

  • Ethylene oxide (epoxidation)

Due to its extremely low toxicity and wide range of molecular mass, Polyethylene Glycol can be used in several applications, such as a component of ointments, liquids, tableting, creams, lotions, pastes, cosmetic sticks, and soaps. Other common uses are as cleaning and dyeing aid in the textile industry, as lubricants and mold parting agents in the rubber industry, and as ceramics' bonding agents and plasticizers. PEG can also have applications as an antistatic agent, crude oil demulsifier component, gas desulfurization agent, laxative, nickel plating brightening agent, and as a solvent for pigments and inks.
