Price Dynamics. The Para Cresol price in China decreased during April 2018 to 3,136 USD per metric ton, which represents a slight decline of 1% compared to the previous month’s value. On a year-over-year basis, Para Cresol prices in China increased significantly by 10%. Meanwhile, in Germany, the average price of Para Cresol amounted to 3,093 USD per metric ton in April 2018, from 2,766 USD per metric ton one year earlier. On a month-over-month basis, the current Para Cresol price in Germany is 0.3% lower than the price one month before.
The price of Para Cresol in India declined slightly throughout April 2018, reaching 3,130 USD per metric ton. The current price in India is 0.3% lower than the average price in the last month and 7% higher than the average price one year ago. In contrast, Para Cresol prices in United States increased significantly during April 2018, reaching 3,217 per, which means a rise of 18% from the previous month’s price and a decline of 1% from the previous year’s price.

About Para Cresol. P-Cresol is a colorless liquid or solid material, with a tarry odor, that consists of a toluene molecule with a hydroxy group substitution at position 4. It can sink, slowly mix with water, and is miscible to organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, and benzene. This chemical has significance in human and other animals' metabolism. Industrially, it can be produced by fractionation of m-/p-cresol or by alkali fusion with p-toluenesulfonic acid.
P-Cresol should be stored in properly labeled iron or steel containers, separated from explosives, oxidizing materials, and organic peroxides. Since it is hygroscopic and air and light-sensitive, this chemical should be stored under an inert gas in a dry and cool place. Moreover, the storage area should be away from a drain or sewer access to avoid contamination.

The uses and applications of Para Cresol may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Para Cresol are crude cresol (20% o-cresol, 40% m-cresol, 30% p-cresol); and technical grade (98%-99% minimum purity).
p-Cresol has many applications, being widely used as an industrial solvent and in synthetic resin, disinfectant, and fungicide production. It is also used in the production of explosives and synthetic perfumery materials. Moreover, it is applied as a metal cleaning agent, a solvent for wire enamels, an ore flotation agent, and a monomer for phenolic resins.
